It's good to hear from the original members of The Master Jazz of Connecticut. Your team with Pamela Smith was really a great group to compete against. I coached Jumpers In Command and still do, Going up against you guys made us so much better Sorry to hear that it hasn't been up to par recently. We are basically doing a great deal of entertaining, and sometimes compete in only the larger tournaments. There's a lot of bragging going on from some of the younger groups in the leagues, howerver , they never really had the opportunity to see the Greatest Groups of Double Dutch Competition. The Fantastic Four , The Jazzy Jumpers, Personified, and Jumpers In Command are among the best that ever were and probably among the best that will ever be.Perhaps one day the younger groups will discover that if it weren't for you guys the sport would have never lasted.Perhaps that is why the quality of their perormances and their ability to match speed records that were set years ago has not been reached as of yet. Once again, let Pam know that Larry, Stephone's coach, says hello and remembers the days of ESPN and our rivalries. We truly had the greatest teams that have competed in Double Dutch history. For that we can be thankful and proud.

We currently have pilot programs initiated in a local school district, with plans to expand to neighboring districts and recreational departments. Hello to all. First I have to give thanks to David Walker (my Double Dutch Dad) I'm originally from the Double Dutch Tigers, a team who started way back in 1975 with David Walker. Double Dutch has allowed me as well as others to enjoy the better things, that life has in store for us. My team, DD Tigers have won numerous Tournaments back in the days which allowed us to travel so many places and meet many new faces. We're featured in the "Pick Up Your Feet" documentery video. Originally as a NYC Jumper,Coach & Judge, I now reside in Georgia(near Atlanta). I'm now starting teams in south Atlanta. Anyone interested contact me @ Divagetaways@aol.com or 800-319-7151. Look out "Here We Come Jumping". Special Hello to all NYC teams, coaches & Judges. Talk to ya soon! Diana Hayes

on sat. april 28, 2007, dave walker and several members of the NDDL saw the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL (TFF) premier of DOUBLETIME, a double dutch documentary about two double dutch teams--BOUNCING BULLDOGS of DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA and DOUBLE DUTCH FORCES of COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, as they practice, compete in tournaments and horse around, all with the goal of competing in the ANNUAL HOLIDAY DOUBLE DUTCH CLASSIC AT THE APOLLO THEATER. the film is very entertaining, enjoyable and had a lot of good natured laughing at some insights into individual jumpers personalities and jumping techniques. the documentary will be shown in theaters nationwide and then will air on cable television's DISCOVERY CHANNEL. it will be shown again at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL on thursday MAY 3, 2007, 8pm at the REGAL CINEMAS--102 NORTH END AVE at VESEY STREET and at 2pm, SATURDAY MAY 5, 2007 at the AMC KIPS BAY---570 2nd AVENUE at 32nd STREET. the documentary RHYTHM IN THE ROPES won an EMMY as MOST OUTSTANDING SPORTS DOCUMENTARY. will DOUBLETIME win an OSCAR? see it and voice your opinion.

Double Dutch is a sport. It helps to promote teamwork, communication, and friendship among many other things. A little competition is good for everyone. Trash talk is just that. Every team is capable of winning at any given time. True champions have no need to trash talk or brag. The history of the sport and the facts determine the greatest teams that ever competed. I am proud of all the accomplishments that each member of every team I had was able to accomplish. We were lucky enough to win many many tournaments,BUT WIN OR LOSE, thay gave their best and I remain proud to be the coach of Jumpers In Command for the last 25 years. Each and every one of you , team members and coaches should feel the same as I do about your groups. The Fantastic Four , Jumpers Personified ,Jumping Joints Double Dutch Dynamites and many more teams are all on my list of the greatest teams that ever performed. Stephone Webb in my opinion, is the greatest individual performer and choreographer that ever participated in the sport. There is no one in my knowledge that has even come near to what he has done for the sport of Double Dutch. And I have been fortunate to continue to coach him and work with him for the last 25 years.

i read a lot about the jazzy jumpers posted on this website, but i predict that the team to watch out for is the bouncing bulldogs from durham north carolina, in every age divison. if you check the results from the 2006 holiday classics, the bulldogs came in 2nd place in every age group except one. can the jazzy jumers say the same, or is it just trash talking

There's is so much happening in NYC. I live in GA now and I am in the process of starting a double dutch team/program. Many of us remember our dutch days and are trying to bring it to the south. I have the space and many people who are interested. I'm looking for an experienced person to help teach the skills and techniques. It's for fun and/or to eventually compete. What is the process to be a part of the league? We are serious and in need of help.

I briefly volunteered as a coach two years ago and now I'm starting a team at West Charlotte park/rec center in Charlotte, NC. My desire is to teach this fun and healthy sport and eventually perform and compete. Double dutch was my favorite past-time activity while growing up in the 1970's in Queens, NY. I'm open to suggestions and look forward to responses from anyone interested in learning or being an assistant coach.

I'm in the process of starting a recreational Over 30 Double Dutch league in South Jersey. I have a few friends that jumped as teenagers and I was in competitions as a child. It was lots of fun and I wanted to bring some of that fun back to the Over 30 crowd. I hope that my friends will bring their children, once a week, so we can teach our children how to do it. This is just for fun and exercise. I will keep you posted on our progress. Anyone else out there doing the same thing?

What a pleasant surprise I got when I typed in Double Dutch to a search engine and found all this activity concerning my good ol double d. I grew up on the streets of Philadelphia, back in the 50's and I still can jump double dutch. I just started a double dutch after school activity here at the W. W.Bushman elementary school I teach at in Dallas, because most inhabitants here never heard or saw it, but it is catching attention like wild fire, especially when people see I can still jump. So one day I decided to look it up on line to see if I could find some real ropes to use and BAM - a whole world of Double Dutch. Now I am thinking about a league, but I have a long way to go because I am dealing with children who can barely jump single rope yet. But it's been encouraging to see them try and few have really began to step. I have 1 child from Brooklyn in the 4th grade here at my school and she has really helped because now they can see how you step in and jump. Her mom comes and jumps too sometimes and if I did a league, she said she used to compete in NYC. Of course as a child on the streets of Philly, we did not know about a New York child jumping on their streets, so in our minds, we were the only ones jumping double dutch. I was let down to not see any Philly leagues, unless, all the Philadelphians are now in NJ who can jump and that's why they are strong. (smile).

I love double dutching even though I'm not on a team and don't know as many tricks. Double dutch is my life!Without double dutch I don't know where I would be. At CPYSC(College Park Youth and Services Center) I won the double dutch contest 3 times in a row. I wish I could be a double dutch star but I don't think there is a such thing as a double dutch star. I took classes at Lake Arbor Comunity Center. But I didn't get a chance to go to the advanced class.

To Ahmasi Ruhn Lloyd, and all the other guys who enjoy the sport of double dutch, It was quite difficult for those boys who started years ago. I coached two of the best; Benjamin Boyton, and Stephone Webb. They were so great that eventually in time, they were the ones setting the standards for others to follow. If you want to jump, go ahead and do it. Many of the international teams have large numbers of male competiters. Many have succeeded in becoming excellent at this great sport of double dutch.

As a child I used to watch the girls jump Double Dutch and was so jealous and disappointed because boys didn't jump rope back then. Period! I'm so glad that all that has changed eventhough I'm a bit too "mature" to compete, I live vicariously through the young brothers and sisters who compete and perform with the rhythm of the universe. Keep those ropes singing and make your feet dance! Much love to all of you involved in Double Dutch.

born in 1975 in Philly, I grew up jumping double dutch as a pastime. Besides having fun, staying physically fit, and staying out of trouble, double dutch is an incredible excerise in rhythm and independence of the four quadrants. As a musicien I literally thank God for gospel and double dutch for they were the first real musical training I had before ever learing music in a school; and what a school. Thax for the site and I look forward to seeing the documentaries! lil Mo PS is anybody in the southern part of France interested in doing double dutch? If so email me!

Rhythm in the Ropes is in all ways the best documentary ever shown about double dutch. Everyone should take time out to see it. Everyone involved in the creation of the documentary, from the producers, writers ,teams ,and film crews etc. can be very proud. They are all winners. Yes an Emmy would be nice, however, it doesn't take an award to see true geatness. Congratulations again, to the teams featured and to the many people who were involved in the creation of this fine documentary. Mr. A.

Wow, my St. Aloysius memories of Double Dutch are deep. Jumping was the key to coolness. If you wanted to be down, you better know how to double dutch. It took several people to teach me and they didn't want to because I was a little smarty pants with glasses. Once I learned they had a whole new respect for me. I will never forget the jump that crossed me over or the contests in the gym. St. Al's even had a competitive team against other Catholic schools. I couldn't make the team, but I can still jump!

Without them, our team could not have been so successful as it was in the late '70's-'80's with the Jumpin' Joints, led by one of the most respected DD coach pioneers, Mr. Larry Jenkins. Here's to the GOOD 'OLE DAYS!

It was heart warming to bring back memories of my "Double Dutch" professional jumping days. My team won "Best All Around" and received an all expense paid trip to Disney World to demonstrate our skills. I volunteered as a coach before also. Double Dutch is my heart and I would loved to contribute now if there was a way to!!!

I am the coach of Jumpers In Command and we thank you for the fabulous example that you and the other great teams have shown.

Dear Mr. Walker, Ive recently been to your website and was so excited to see what youve accomplished with respect jump roping. I loved jumping as a kid but we moved out of the country and there was no jumping in Spain. We now live in N.Y.C. and I have recently introduced my daughter (about to turn 8 yrs) to jumping, which she loves. I would really like to start a jump roping group for young girls (8 years -12 years or more). My original idea was to find some instructors and get a group going at church or at a facility like the Chelsea Rec Center. I have been doing a little research and it didnt take me long to find you. Can you tell me where we might find classes in Manhattan or whether we could start a league (we are downtown in the union square area)? Or if there is a desire to start a new group? I guess what I really mean is do you have any advice about where or how I should begin? I look forward to hearing from you. All the best, Eva Gardner

Saw the special on ESPN last night (June 9) while surfing the TV and was absolutely fascinated and blown away by what I saw. This should definitely be an Olympic event! It was really awesome, and so is everyone who participates, including the coaches, parents, etc. I never knew that rope-jumping had soared to such great heights, but I am now a real fan. Thank you!

It is good to see that there are so many new fans to double dutch.I have coached for over 25 years. We (jumpers n command) are takeing a little break now. When we return to practise, you are all welcome to come down to Brooklyn and work with us.Perhaps,we would be able to help you with any needs you may have to start your teams off on the right foot. Our group has experienced a lot of success recently. The members ,obviously needed some time to rest and get some time to spend on their own.Like I said, when we begin to work out again, everyone is invited to come down and participate. We are always willing to help beginners, and everyone wanting to learn about double dutch. It is a great sport for both boys and girls.I have had the most fortunate opportunity to work with and coach a great group of athletes.Their efforts, teamwork, and patience have made them the success they are.All I basically had teach them were the rules of the sport. We all shared our ideas.Every member contributed something of their own.And I have had the pleasure to watch them grow into young adults. So to all you new coaches, or to all that are thinking about it,if you have the time it try.To Stephone Webb,(in my opinion)the greatest choreographer and jumper,I've ever coached, keep it up.I'll see you soon when we begin our work outs at the BRC.

Great to visit with Double Dutch! We loved it when I was in 4th grade in Pompano, Florida, in 1948! I don't remember how I was introduced to it, but I begged for my own double-dutch jumprope! My dad said I looked like I was going to a hanging when I set out for school every day on my bike! I'd like to see the kids get back with it all over the country. Great for the body and great for the mind! Y'all keep on keeping on! I hope to see it spread! Enjoy! Nancy

To Lanita and Sir Clyde , thanks for your kind words.Jumpers N Command ( DDDD), have been very successful .They seem to know that we all must work as a team to be successful. But as they say " it takes a village to raise a child" and this also applies to our team.We owe our accomplishments to so many good people out there.Without your good wishes, our success would be half as rewarding. So to everyone (and you know who you are) THANKS AGAIN!!! Hope to see you soon. And be sure to take the time to think of the good times.

We all jumped as children, me growing up in Philadelphia, and we love it. Please tell me my first step to starting and later competing.

today, brooklyn borough president marty markowitz honored JUMPERS IN COMMAND for bringing the double dutch championship to brooklyn. in his speech, markowitz said: "with a little luck, by 2012 double dutch will be an Olympic sport, and we'll all be back crowning Olympic champions right here in brooklyn, U-S-A." there was very good television news coverage (channels 1, 4, 7 and 11) if you are supporting double dutch as an Olympic event, visit www.nyc2012.com and let the nyc olympic committee know that you want double dutch to be an olympic event in 2012.

It was great, we had practice the following day and my girls were very excited and eager to start practicing the routines. im glad they were all able to attend and see other young ladies doing what i have been trying to establish with them for weeks. They are finally getting the routines down pack, we still have some work to do. I also wanted to know when is the next competition held and how do we apply for it.Again spectaclor show. please keep my email address for future engagements. Harlem Heat.... Hey Double Dutch jumpers, I'm glad there is a web cite for Double Dutch. When I was younger I use to jump a lot and go to completions locally (New York State in Rochester) and nationally down south . That was a big thing for me, I loved to jump ever since I was young. Im an adult now and I still want to jump but there is no team here in my city that I could join or thats in my age range (over 21 but before 30). I live in a small city name Syracuse NY we need a double dutch team here so we can rep our town, we have lots of talent. Maybe one day a national competition can be held here in Syracuse we have the space. Love, Peace and keep doing what good Jumping Double Dutch Marissa

please forgive me for not postings the results of the 13th annual double dutch holiday classic held sunday december 12, 2004 at the apollo theater. 15 teams competed for the "BEST IN THE SHOW" award--9 teams from japan, 2 from connecticut, 1 each from north carolina and south carolina and 2 teams from new york city. "BEST IN THE SHOW" jumpers in command from brooklyn, ny. the team consisted of 4 black females, 1 black male and 1 japanese male and coached by a white male. 2nd place...D-SOR from tokyo, japan, consisting of 2 males and 3 females. 3rd place....EARNEST 8 also from tokyo, japan and consisting of 2 males and 3 females. for the first time, white teams competed--1 team from connecticut and 2 teams from north carolina. also for the first time, there was a large group of white spectators. they came from north carolina to support the north carolina teams, one of which consisted of 4 white females and 1 black male. the male, female, black, white and japanese jumpers displayed how diverse double dutch has become and is no longer considered a sport for black females. there was tremendous support for all teams so get your team ready for the 14th annual double dutch holiday classic that will be held in december, 2005 at the apollo theater.

I am a nine time double dutch champion. Nobody recognizes Stan Pepper Steppers, and you see us on the tape," learning the ropes of competitive double dutch. I just want to let you know. I beat DDDD 3 years straight. Ask Stephone he'll tell you. Ask him how many time did you beat Kee- Kee. I was very experienced. Double Dutch has changed over the years. Back in the days like 1990 to 2000 I have won 9 straight times. The jackets they give now are very cheap and the cost to jump now is more than before. The trophies are not even gonna last four years. Back in 1993 Johnson & johnson used to sponsor it. I also was on the Best of the Best. That was all the first place championship teams who won the day before at the worlds competition. You people are aknowledging the wrong people. It's okay for publicity, but for respect, let it be known Stan's Pepper Steppers been around for 25 years and are still winning every year. From the one and only Kee- Kee (Markeya)

hello mr larry a. thank you very much for your encouraging words of advise. Yesterday 11/01/04 was my first tryouts and to my surprise i had a decent turnout.i picked my girls and one young man to join the dd team. They all were great kids i wish i could have choosen all of them. i do understand the importance of patients and being that stand up adult for these kids. I have two teenage daughters who i would say in a nutshell they can drive anyone crazy and make you lose your mind. So yes i have learned a great amount of patients and understanding. peace comes to those who will endure and sacrific their time and effort. i truly believe i have that in me. Iam giving these young ladies 110% of me.Hoping they will give of themselves the same.again thank you. regarding your practice i would love to attend, but i know i would probably be at work at that time.please feel free to contact me at your earliest conveience. your advise has been truly helpfull.

To Cheryl Young I have been a coach of double dutch for approx. 20 yrs.I have found that a lot of patience is involved at the beginning of any undertaking. After all the years, however, our group of jumpers have won many world championships. They have been fortunate enough to entertain all over the world. It was basically their hard work and effort that made it possible. All I had to do was be the responsible adult that was there to guide them and help them over all these years. We start practise at the Brownsville Recreation Center in Bklyn on or about Nov.16-17 of 2004. You are more than welcome to join us at our try-outs and practise.Perhaps we can help you.If you like bring some of your future jumpers. You can reach me here at this site. Many of our group are also seen here on this site. Lots of luck Larry A.

Hi, I love this web site. I used to jump for P.S.95 Back in the early 80's with Sabrina, and we came in first place many times. We also was on a show that was aired back then, called pick up your feet. I also showed Lisa of Mc Donald Dynamo's alot of those tricks back then. They dont have anything like that here, but I would love to see DD on TV. My coach back then was Mr. D.Schalen one of the best but we've lost contact. just wanted to say keep up the great work, and if you know of any shows that will be airing on tv, please let me know.

Hi Fantastic Four, Nikki, Delores,Robin and Deshaun-I hope that I spelled your names right.Your group was the best there ever was.It was my privilege to work with you for a short time. It's Larry (White).I taught with Larry Jenkins, and when he wasn't able to take you around, I did.You may remember me as Stephone's coach as well. Thanks for all the memories of your performances at Lincoln Center and everywhere else.Just to let you know that you were really the Fantastic Four .You're the ones that set the standards for the rest to follow. Thanks again. Larry A.

To everyone who is asking for Stephone. He is still busy doing double dutch. He is presently traveling throughout the United States with his group spreading the good will of double dutch. He and his team are takeing double dutch to a new level. Thanks to Dave's new format for adding music and fan friendly innovations, Stephone and the group were able to mature and grow during the past years into a group that has been seen throughout the world. I have had the pleasure of coaching them and watching him grow for the last 25 years and it all started when we competed in the good old days of the 1970's with David Walker.

You may remember me as Stephone's coach.Just want to let you know that it;s because of you guys and your skills that double dutch has come so far.You put the sport onto the map.Your shows at Lincoln Center and all over the United States were far ahead of their time. Thanks for the memories ,and still thinking of you You are really FANTASTIC !

I grew up in S. Bronx NY. I moved to the midwest when I was seventeen and I haven't been back to the apple since. I've been trying to teach my daughter and her friends double dutch, but I can't remember any of the counting songs or rhymes can someone help me. In the midwest this is a part of the black culture no one here seems to know anything about.

I was a member of the American Double Dutch League about 6 or 7 years ago and it was the most fun and enriching experience I have ever been a part of. Double Dutch stimulated a desire inside of me to do well, practice hard, be determined and have fun. Keep up all the great work, and hopefully New Orleans can reinstate such programs so that our youth can be involved in more than video games, TV, and crime.

I also attended the Apollo to watch the double dutch show. I was truly impressed. I use to jump in my neighborhood many years ago with the Hollis Biddies in New York. Needless to say, the love I have the sport has never left me. I'll be back again and hopefully with a group that will enjoy the sport with the same and intensisity I had.
